9/11 Memorial Year End Update 2010 : Page 9BUILDING THE COLLECTION A Symbol of the Spirit of Volunteerism The New York Says Thank You Foundation (NYSTY) has promised to donate the National 9/11 Flag, a flag destroyed in the collapse of the World Trade Center and stitched back together by tornado survivors in Greensburg, Kansas. For the past several years the flag has traveled with NYSTY volunteers to rebuild communities ravaged by natural disasters. The flag has become a symbol that reinforces the same commitment to service and volunteerism that was felt throughout the nation and the world on September 12, 2001. Objects like the National 9/11 Flag will help the Museum ensure that future generations understand the history of compassion and volunteerism arising from the 9/11 attacks.
