9/11 Memorial Year End Update 2010 : Page 16

FULFILLING OUR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATE Tribute Art and 9/11: Healing through Artistic Response In partnership with the September 11th Education Trust and the Social Studies School Service, we continued our commitment to provide teachers with tools to teach about 9/11 by offering our third commemorative teaching resource, which focuses on artistic responses to 9/11. In the aftermath of the attacks, many people chose to respond in a range of artistic expressions as part of the healing, recovery, and rebuilding process. The resources include a teaching guide called “Tribute Art and 9/11: Healing through Artistic Response,” a downloadable poster and an interactive website featuring the extraordinary artifact Lady Liberty. The guide includes discussion questions and suggested activities for students. To supplement classroom discussions, “Lady Liberty” is brought to life online through technology allowing users to learn more about the tributes and memorials placed on the replica that once stood outside a firehouse on 8 th Avenue and West 48 th Street in Manhattan. In this online program, the surface of the statue has been transformed into an interactive landscape allowing users to zoom in and learn more about the tributes and the stories attached to them.
