9/11 Memorial Year End Update 2010 : Page 3MOMENTUM BUILDS ON MEMORIAL CONSTRUCTION First Trees Planted at the World Trade Center Carried two-by-two on flatbed trucks, the first trees arrived to the World Trade Center site from a nursery in New Jersey, where they have been growing and carefully monitored since 2007. Over the next year, the trees will continue to be planted as sections of the plaza are landscaped. The average height of the trees is currently 30 feet, but they are expected to grow as tall as 80 feet. The Memorial plaza, consisting of approximately 300 trees when completed, will symbolize hope and renewal, and create a vital new green space in the heart of Lower Manhattan.
