9/11 Memorial Year End Update 2010 : Page 10BUILDING THE COLLECTION The “Dear Hero” Collection: Young People’s Response to 9/11 Children from across the globe responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks by sending heartfelt letters and drawings to New York City firefighters. These letters and drawings make up the “Dear Hero” collection. The collection was named “Dear Hero” because of the common salutation used to address the firehouses. This collection of handcrafted items shows that even simple contributions are significant in telling the story of how people -young and old -responded to 9/11.
