9/11 Memorial Year End Update 2010 : IFCMESSAGE FROM Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg Chairman of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum The rebuilding of the World Trade Center site is one of the most complicated, and the most meaningful, construction projects in American history. Thanks to the hard work of hundreds of construction workers and a strong partnership with the World Trade Center’s construction manager, The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the progress at the site is unmistakable. As the building moves forward, we continue to collaborate with the local community, state agencies, and other Lower Manhattan stakeholders on the development of operational plans for the opening of the Memorial. Our primary objective is to provide as many visitors as possible with an opportunity to visit the Memorial safely and securely, and experience its power. I would like to thank every individual who has contributed to the construction of the Memorial. Because of the generous support garnering 270,000 donations from all 50 states and 38 countries, we will open this national tribute in time for the 10 th anniversary of the attacks. Together we are helping our country fulfill a sacred obligation to those we lost, honoring their memory — and our nation’s principles and values. Best wishes, Above: An aerial view of the World Trade Center site looking south.
