9/11 Memorial Year End Update 2010 : Page 1LETTER FROM Joseph C. Daniels President & CEO of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum Today, many of the signature elements of the Memorial are already in place. The Memorial pools are fully framed in steel and concrete. Tests on the waterfalls have taken place and will continue in the next several months. Steel for the Museum Pavilion is now visible from street level, including two very important pieces, the historic steel “tridents” from the façade of the North Tower. The cobblestone floor of the plaza is being laid and green life returned to the World Trade Center for the first time with the planting of the first trees. Fabrication work commenced on the centerpiece of the Memorial, the bronze parapets that will line the edges of the Memorial pools, bearing the names of the nearly 3,000 innocent victims of the September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993 attacks. The year ahead promises to be filled with many exciting milestones as we work towards the opening of the Memorial in 2011 and the Museum in 2012. Thanks to the leadership of 9/11 Memorial Chairman Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, a dedicated board of directors and staff, the cooperation of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the unified support of other stakeholders, we are on track to dedicate the Memorial on September 11, 2011, the 10 th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. On September 11, 2011, the eyes of the world will turn to the World Trade Center site, and we look forward to delivering a Memorial of which our nation and the world can be proud. Warm regards The Memorial pools will stream water down 30 feet into the acre sized voids in the foot prints of the original towers. Photo by Joe Woolhead.
